Bingemans Chooses Brunswick Bowling for Area’s Largest Bowling Venue

Bingemans, one of Southwestern Ontario’s most popular family entertainment centers, has opened the Kingpin Bowlounge, a 28-lane, 43,000-square-foot venue. The new addition is the largest bowling center in the Waterloo Region and features state-of-the-art Brunswick technology as well as a Playdium Game Center and the largest outdoor patio in the area. The grand opening was held July 13.

Founded in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1938 as The Dairy Bar with 13 stools for patrons to enjoy milk shakes, sodas, ice cream and sandwiches, along with bacon and eggs for sale, Bingemans has grown into a multi-faceted family entertainment and catering complex complete with Canada’s first wave pool, a camping resort with more than 450 individual campsites, several golf courses, a water park, a “playland” and now, Brunswick bowling.

The Kingpin Bowlounge was two years in the making, explains Mark Bingeman, president of the family-owned hospitality company.

“While we do well with small children, we found we were losing them as they got older because they no longer wanted to interact with younger kids,” Bingeman said. “We’d capture some of the older kids, but they’d soon lose interest; so, we were looking for ways to keep them entertained as well as looking for an activity to offer people of all ages. We also host meetings and conventions and some of our staff expressed an interest in bowling. I wasn’t interested at first, but we took a hard look at the sport and all it had to offer.”

While studying the bowling industry, Bingeman was invited to attend an educational event sponsored by Brunswick Bowling.

“I was skeptical, but by touring some of Brunswick’s new concepts in Seattle and Vancouver as well as Miami, my colleagues and I thought we should seriously consider bowling as something that our guests would like. It turned out that bowling complements what we want to do and allows us to grow.”

Visiting other entertainment centers throughout the Brunswick trip was really the catalyst in the decision-making process, Bingeman said, not only to add bowling but also to use Brunswick as the bowling provider. “From a business planning standpoint, we felt Brunswick really understood the entertainment aspect of the business. Plus, we get the best after-service from them.”

Kris DesRoches, Director of Sales for Striker Bowling Solutions (Brunswick’s Exclusive Capital Agent in Canada), recommends taking advantage of the Company’s educational resources, just at Mark Bingeman did.

“Mark and his colleagues are business savvy,” DesRoches said. “They know what they need to grow and to continue providing the best experience for their guests. We know bowling. Together, it’s a recipe for success.”
